Job Summary

Growing Futures Early Education Center is currently hiring for a Full Time Family Educator to join our team to collaborate and deliver a developmentally appropriate curriculum for the assigned classrooms. Initial and ongoing training is provided and may be paid for by the organization. Individuals with prior experience in early childhood are encouraged to apply!

The Family Educator is responsible for providing Early Head Start home visitation services, utilizing the Parents as Teachers curriculum to deliver child development and parenting education. The Family Educator will complete ongoing assessments and screenings for all children, and refer children with suspected disabilities. The Family Educator assists parents in identifying family strengths and needs, setting self-sufficiency goals, and accessing community support agencies.

Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Deliver early childhood and prenatal education through weekly and bi-weekly home visits; prenatal to age 3 1/2.
  • Work collaboratively with the family to develop appropriate child development lesson plans and goals. Use a strengths-based approach in relationship building with families to ensure that all cultural backgrounds and personal beliefs are respected.
  • Use knowledge from screenings and assessments to individualize planning for children. Develop individual teaching plans covering self-help, fine, gross motor, social, cognitive, and language skills development for parents to implement in the home. Implement appropriate techniques and activities to ensure that all child developmental domains are being met based on each child’s rate of development.
  • Encourage family and parent involvement in all program activities.
  • Attend IFSP or IEP meetings, as needed.
  • Work in conjunction with the Family & Community Partnerships Coordinator to facilitate group socializations twice a month.
  • Make referrals to Early Intervention Advocate when there are developmental concerns
  • Attend Child and Family Reviews, trainings, and appropriate professional development activities designed to promote collaboration documentation
  • Document all family contact and track family follow-up needs, Family Goals, Child Development Goals, and home visits in Child Plus.
Curriculum and Assessment
  • Responsible for planning and implementing learning experiences that promote all developmental domains (social, emotional, physical, and intellectual) including contributing to the readiness of children to enter school by developing their early language acquisition and vocabulary.
  • Observe, document, and assess children using anecdotal notes through Child Observation Record database (COR).
  • Utilize Parents As Teacher’s curriculum model.
  • Support children and families ideas, initiatives and creativity.
Other Job Responsibilities
  • Maintain a professional presentation of self and Growing Futures when working with vendors and in the community.
  • Attend professional development trainings and report new information to team.
  • Ability and understanding to work in a program serving a high-risk, low-income population.
  • Work flexible hours to meet the needs of the program and/or families with some evening hours possible to accommodate family needs or periodic evening events.
  • Manage weekly schedule to meet home visit requirements within 40 hours.
  • Assist in the completion of periodic reports (i.e. Monthly report).
  • Participate in reflective supervision with Direct Supervisor.
  • Attend professional development trainings and report new information to team.
  • Maintain and ensure confidentiality and privacy of Growing Futures.
  • Uphold management decisions in word and action.
  • All Growing Futures employees are mandated reporters for suspicion of child abuse and neglect.
  • Set-up tables and chairs in meeting room as the need arise.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise
  • Knowledge of early childhood curriculum. Certification in Parents as Teachers curriculum with annual recertification and training required.
  • Valid driver’s license with an operational and insured personal car.
  • Research and keep abreast of child development topics to enhance lesson plans.
  • Ability to work as a cooperative and supportive team member.
  • Intermediate knowledge of computer applications and the ability to learn and master computer technology/software programs as needed.
  • Awareness of available resources within the community.
  • Knowledgeable of Head Start Performance Standards.
Language/Communication Skills
  • Maintain on-going contact with all appropriate staff to provide support consultation, share relevant information, and gain information regarding child performance in the classroom.
  • Ability to communicate and cooperate with various professionals and community groups.
  • Ability to communicate and cooperate with parents.
Physical Demands

  • An initial physical exam and TB test are required as a condition of employment and must be updated every five (5) years, unless exposure to TB.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer and office equipment, including, but not limited to the telephone, fax machine, copier, and computer.
  • Must be able to physically interact with children, including bending, kneeling, sitting on the floor, lifting up to 40 pounds, climbing and walking.
  • Must be able to see and hear children to ensure the children’s health and safety.

Required Experience

Previous experience in home visiting and/or teaching preferred.

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, family services, counseling, psychology, sociology, early childhood, or related field.

Required Skills

Valid unrestricted driver's license required.
